A Holy God
1 Samuel 2:1-2 NLT
2 Then Hannah prayed: “My heart rejoices in the Lord! The Lord has made me strong.Now I have an answer for my enemies; I rejoice because you rescued me. 2 No one is holy like the Lord! There is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.
A Holy God
Look what the Lord has done!
“No one is holy like the Lord”!
Psalm 113:4-6 NIV: 4 The Lord is exalted over all the nations,
his glory above the heavens. 5 Who is like the Lord our God,
the One who sits enthroned on high, 6 who stoops down to look
on the heavens and the earth?
God calls us to be holy
1 Samuel 2:11-12 NLT 11 Then Elkanah returned home to Ramah without Samuel. And the boy served the Lord by assisting Eli the priest.12 Now the sons of Eli were scoundrels who had no respect for the Lord.
1 Samuel 2:18-21 NLT 18 But Samuel, though he was only a boy, served the Lord. He wore a linen garment like that of a priest.19 Each year his mother made a small coat for him and brought it to him when she came with her husband for the sacrifice. 20 Before they returned home, Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife and say, “May the Lord give you other children to take the place of this one she gave to the Lord.” 21 And the LORD blessed Hannah, and she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters.

The Plight, The Prayer, The Promise
1 Samuel 1:1-8 NKJV
1 Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim Zophim, of the mountains of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite. 2 And he had two wives: the name of one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children. 3 This man went up from his city yearly to worship and sacrifice to the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. Also the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the Lord, were there. 4 And whenever the time came for Elkanah to make an offering, he would give portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and daughters. 5 But to Hannah he would give a double portion, for he loved Hannah, although the Lord had closed her womb. 6 And her rival also provoked her severely, to make her miserable, because the Lord had closed her womb. 7 So it was, year by year, when she went up to the house of the Lord, that she provoked her; therefore she wept and did not eat. 8 Then Elkanah her husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? Why do you not eat? And why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”

17 Now the Philistines gathered their armies together to battle, and were gathered at Sochoh, which belongs to Judah; they encamped between Sochoh and Azekah, in Ephes Dammim. 2 And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and they encamped in the Valley of Elah, and drew up in battle array against the Philistines. 3 The Philistines stood on a mountain on one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side, with a valley between them. 4 And a champion went out from the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, from Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
